When an agent is installed on a computer for the first time, a unique ID is created for the agent on the computer. It is possible to create the ID with default settings or with hardware settings. With default, the Inventory Service generates the unique ID alone. With hardware ID, the unique ID is generated from the computer’s Bios serial number. If the computer should at one point get a new OS (deploying new image, hdd crashes) the bios number can be used to find the correct computer in Network Scanning database when agent is once more installed, instead of creating a duplicate.
The unit ID will remain in the registry even after normal uninstall.
