Import from CSV is a feature that allows users to import data about their CIs from the textual file in CSV format. Each CI is described with a set of properties and these properties should be entered into CMDB. Because CSV file is actually data in table format, these properties are columns in a CSV file.
Property mapping is a mechanism that describes the relation between the property fields in NSP CMDB and columns in a CSV file. Property mapping is custom, and can be done arbitrarily by the user.
When mapping columns in the CSV-file against properties in CMDB, that are stored in the system database. The import function only accepts data of the correct format, e.g. format that correspond to the database format for the CMDB field.
Note: Each CSV file can contain only CIs of the same CI Type. That is general prerequisite requirement. Furthermore, since the CI types are a tree structure, set of the properties available for a certain CI is dependent of a CI type as well as the ancestors of that type.
Import by clicking the “CVS Import” button on the CMDB CI list and do the CI CSV Import steps.
